AR Coating Innovation: Future Trends in Display Surface Technology,,nano hollow silica material

In recent years, nano hollow silica materials have become quite popular, with demand increasing not only for the development of 5G low dielectric products but also for applications requiring low reflection and high transmission!!

What is Anti-Reflection Film (AR Film)?

AR coating is a technique that applies an anti-reflective layer to thin films or other substrates. This layer helps reduce surface reflection and glare on screens and can achieve various additional functions.

AR coatings are commonly used on the surfaces of LCD or OLED displays in televisions, personal computers, and mobile phones. Besides displays, they can also be applied to showcases, glasses, camera lenses, automotive glass, and dashboards. As they are located on the surface of substrates, they need to have functions such as scratch resistance, chemical resistance, and stain resistance. When the particle size is within the micron range, these metal oxides cause extinction of the coating due to light scattering. When these particles are reduced to the nanometer scale of 20-40nm, they do not scatter light and become transparent. Therefore, selecting nanoparticles' size can help maintain the film's transparency.

To reduce reflected light using optical interference, the material must be designed to ensure that light reflects on the surface of the anti-reflective layer and passes through the anti-reflective layer with the same amplitude but opposite phase at the interface between the anti-reflective layer and the substrate. Therefore, the thickness of the AR layer is usually designed to be around 100nm.

Additionally, variations in coating thickness will lead to changes in reflectance and color. Achieving consistency in the 100nm thin film coating requires the development of inks suitable for thin film coatings and precise coating techniques for the coating solution.

AR coatings use various inorganic and organic materials to impart functionality to the coating. Among them, porous silica is the most promising material, and the following methods can be used to coat these materials:
